01One colour per birthday
Two designs, twelve months each: a cross pendant on a 17.7-inch chain and a heart bracelet on 6.9 inches, with the stone of the month cut into both.
Stones and finishes on this page: garnet, amethyst, aquamarine, cubic zirconia, emerald, alexandrite, ruby, peridot, and 4 more.
A birthstone piece is one design in twelve colours, and choosing between the two here is a question about the person rather than about the stone. A pendant is seen by everyone in the room and is taken off at night. A bracelet is seen mostly by the person wearing it and gets knocked against a desk all day. If the present is for somebody who wears a watch, the bracelet goes on the other wrist. If it is for somebody who already wears a chain, a second pendant will tangle with the first unless the lengths are far apart.
The colours themselves are cut cubic zirconia, not mined gems, which is what makes twelve months at this price possible in the first place. That has one practical consequence worth knowing: a zirconia is harder than most gems and does not scratch easily, but it does collect the film that hand cream leaves, and it goes dull months before the silver around it does. Warm water, a soft brush behind the setting, dry it properly, and the colour comes back.

02About these pieces
One colour per birthday
January garnet red, February amethyst purple, March aquamarine blue, April clear, May emerald green, June alexandrite, July ruby red, August peridot green, September sapphire blue, October tourmaline pink, November citrine orange and December blue topaz. The table on the front page lists the same twelve against the pieces that carry them.
No, and the site says so on every page that sells one. They are cut cubic zirconia in the colour of the month, and that is why a birthstone piece here costs twenty-odd dollars rather than several hundred. The colour, the cut and the month are exactly what they look like. The stone is not a mined gem.
People do it constantly, and the stone is chosen for the colour as often as for the date. If green is the answer, May and August both give you green at different depths. If the person wears warm tones, November is the orange one. Nothing on this site treats a month as anything other than a tradition.
