01The pair that goes in and stays in
Two designs and a dozen pairs: polished silver balls in six millimetre steps from 3mm to 10mm, and a bezel of crushed crystal in five finishes at 8mm and 12mm. Every post is 925 sterling silver on a butterfly back.

A stud is chosen on one number, and most people choose it wrong the first time. Three millimetres is a full stop at the end of a sentence. Ten is the size of a pencil rubber, and across a lobe the difference is the difference between an earring you forget you are wearing and one people mention. If you are buying a second hole or a pair for a child, the small end of the run is where to look. If this is the only pair you will wear for the next two years, four to six millimetres is where most of ours go out the door. The post is ten millimetres long on the ball studs, which is enough for an ordinary lobe and short enough not to bury itself in a thick one. Silver darkens in air, and a stud worn every day darkens slower than one that lives in a drawer, because your skin polishes it every time you put it in.

Prices are the ones from our last update. an EVERU eye updates them on a schedule, and the figure at the till is the one that counts.
03Before you order
How the millimetre figure translates to a lobe, what the backs are, and what the 925 stamp on the post is telling you.
Every stud on this shelf is described by one number: how wide it is across the face. Hold a ruler to the lobe you are buying for, in a mirror, and read the millimetres. A four-millimetre ball covers about as much lobe as the head of a pin. Ten covers about as much as a pencil rubber.
The ball studs step 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 millimetres, and the druzy pair comes at 8 and 12. Nothing else changes between the sizes, same silver, same ten-millimetre post, same butterfly back.
A butterfly back: the small hinged clip that pushes onto the post and grips by friction. It is the fastening most people have worn since childhood, it comes off with a pull, and it loosens slowly over years of use rather than suddenly.
A back that has gone slack is not a broken earring. Replacement backs are sold by the dozen anywhere, and a loose back on a stud you like is the cheapest thing in this catalogue to fix.
People do, and a small polished ball is the shape that best survives it: nothing catches on a pillow and the post lies flat. What actually goes wrong overnight is the back, which works loose and ends up somewhere in the bed.
If a piercing is newer than a few months, the advice from every piercer is to leave the original jewellery in and not to swap it at bedtime for anything at all.
