Sterling is a recipe, not a compliment. It means 92.5 per cent silver with something harder making up the rest, and the reason the trade settled on that number is mechanical: pure silver is soft enough to bend a post out of true in a season. Every pair on this page carries that alloy in the parts that matter: the post that goes through the lobe, the back that holds it, the setting the stone sits in. The Federal Trade Commission defines the word for anyone selling in the United States, and that is why the wording here does not vary.

What sterling does not mean is unchanging. Silver reacts with sulphur in the air and goes darker, faster in a humid bathroom and slower in a drawer with the air pressed out of the bag. A pair worn daily stays bright because skin polishes it. A pair kept for occasions is the one that comes out grey. Both are fine, both are normal, and the cloth in the box is the whole solution.

Questions about EVERU Sterling Silver Earrings

Every pair with a 925 post

What does the 925 on your EVERU earrings mean?

That the alloy is 925 parts per thousand silver, 92.5 per cent, which is what the words sterling and sterling silver mean too. It is stamped on the metal where there is room for it, and on a small stud there often is not.

Will EVERU sterling earrings turn your ears green?

Sterling silver does not, in the way copper-heavy costume metal does. What it does do is darken on its own surface, and that film can transfer onto skin as a faint grey mark if a piece is worn day and night without cleaning. A wipe with the cloth takes both off.

How do you clean EVERU silver earrings?

Straight strokes with the polishing cloth from the box, not circles, and not toothpaste. For a pair with a stone in it, warm water and a soft brush behind the setting, then dry completely before storing, trapped moisture is what makes silver darken fastest.
